The "Gathering of Patriots to Bring About World Peace" in Tokyo is not what its name might imply. Issuikai, a Japanese nationalist group, has brought together far-right groups from eight European countries and Japan to talk of "patriotism" and "nationalism", wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Amusingly, the agenda included a visit to Tokyo's Yasukuni Shrine, a rightist Mecca where Japan's war dead, including convicted war criminals, are honored. Amusingly, of course, because while British National Party representative Adam Walker and his colleagues rail against immigrants who come to Britain to work as dishwashers, undermining the country's moral and economic fiber, during the Second World War ago some of the convicted war criminals entombed at Yasukuni Shrine were entertaining British soldiers in prison camps in Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaya and Burma.
