The federal government will deploy up to 1,200 more National Guard troops to the U.S. border with Mexico to support local border protection and law enforcement activities. Arizona recently enacted legislation that requires police officers to determine whether a person is in the United States legally. The new law requires immigrants to carry their alien registration documents at all times. It also requires police to question people if there's reason to suspect they're undocumented.
