I'm afraid that one was lost on me, as I didn't know what a 'lathi' was -- and had to go look it up. Maybe you need to follow the K.I.S.S. philosophy in anticipation of such ignorance on the part of readers!

That would be a bit too Hollywood, I'm afraid ... the inclusion of gratuitous dialogue in order to explain the obvious to presumably imbecilic viewers? Nah ...
I think it loses in the translation if you have to describe it as a "bloody big cane for beating people" - stay with the vernacular Roberto. PK.
